Weekend..er Week Update

So I guess it's about time for a "real" blog post. Sorry for the delay in updates, Brent and I have been UBER busy for the past few weeks. Let's see...where to start:

At the beginning of February we celebrated Ada's first birthday with a HUGE birthday bash. She was one of the cutest little one year old I've seen in a long time.
That same weekend, we decided to share some exciting news with all our "UTC friends." Besides our families, these girls had a great reaction, even though I later found out that most of them were suspicious that I had an announcement to make. (side note: I'm not sure why I look surprised in this picture as well...I think I was just caught up in the moment. AND check out all those new additions to our group! Aren't they adorable? ... I especially LOVE Emma looking up at me. It's cute)

By this point in the game, we've told pretty much all of our family and friends that we're expecting a little baby Whitaker this August. We tried to tell as many people as we could in person or over the phone - please don't be offended if you had to find out through the blog. It's quite overwhelming to keep up with telling everyone, as well as requesting that those you've told keep it a secret. (now THAT was the hardest part!) We chose to tell our parents and sisters at Christmas, even though I was just 5 weeks along. I wish I had captured those moments when we told them on camera, but it truly was priceless! Especially when my sister just about tackled me.

Now back to February...we have been super busy this month. We actually are closing on a new house this Friday in the Nashville area. We knew we wanted to purchase a home here and thought we would wait until the summer, but with our newest family member on the way, we decided it would probably be a wise choice to get the ball moving. Within the first week of our serious searching, we found a great deal and after 2 weeks of negotiating with the bank, we finalized the deal! We close this Friday and hopefully over the next few weeks we'll be moving out of our apartment into our new home! YAY

For Valentine's Day this year, our really good friend Jeremy got married in Virginia, so Brent and I made the trek to VA and stayed in a beautiful bed and breakfast in Appomattox, VA. The wedding was nice and we were thrilled to finally meet Mrs. Jeremy Day. Here are a few pictures from the weekend:

The room we stayed in was huge. It was actually a 2 bedroom this is just the front entry way leading into the main room and a HUGE bathroom. It was a beautiful B&B.

Jeremy and Brent - it was a beautiful sunny day...too bad their eyes aren't WIDE open!
The bridal party (LtoR): The Bride's Grandmother, Sister, Bride (Tiffany), Groom (Jeremy), Groom's Dad and Groom's Cousin.
The most difficult part that no one prepares you for: repeating your vows!

On our way back on Sunday, we stopped in Blacksburg, VA home of Virginia Tech which was a beautiful campus. They had a great memorial established for the 33 individuals killed in 2007.

Brent has been really busy this month as well - this week alone he's performed at Zanies comedy club here in Nashville AND competed (and won) in an International Speech Competition for Toastmasters. We're praying that he continues to move through the various competitions and wins - it's on to the regionals next then we'll see from there! Exciting times and great opportunities continue to abound as he develops his speaking career.

So that's all for now, folks. That's our little update.

Friday Funnies: King Burger

We have a "part 2" for Friday Funnies because well, I was cracking up when I saw this. It's from a episode of Mad TV. Let's just say it is VERY reminiscent of the Burger King by our apartment....

Time Flies: Happy Birthday

This time one year ago, Brent and I were in Byhalia, MS enjoying a family get together and chili cook off. Just one day before, I had spoken to my then very pregnant best friend who was cleaning her house - down to even cleaning her curtains. She was feeling great and "released" me to travel 6 hours away - she was pretty certain that her little one wouldn't come into the world for at least another week. Little did we know that she was wrong - we got a phone call that Ada was on her way. As upset as I was to not be there during the labor and delivery, there wasn't much I could do except pray for a smooth delivery for my bestest buddy in the world.
On Sunday we couldn't get home fast enough. And just like you can only do with your best friends, I had to post pone our visit for a few hours once we arrived in Chattanooga so our friends could get some rest. That night, we finally got to meet Ada Olivia - one of the prettiest newborns I'd EVER seen. (of course my niece and nephew take the top spots, but until Ada I never knew newborns could be pretty again)
Today is Ada's 1 year birthday. I cannot believe how time has flown. It truly seems like yesterday that we were on the Moncrief's babymoon cruising in the Caribbean. Brittany had just a wee little baby bump at the time, but broke out in a yelling match with her neighbor over smoking on their balcony. (If there was ever a doubt she was pregnant, this was our final clue!)
This past year has been filled with a lot of excitement and changes for the Whitakers, but getting to enjoy our best friends little Ada has been so much fun. Every time we see her, she's doing something new. Like this past weekend when she "started" walking - we were floored that she was walking like a pro! For the past 6 years+ we've spent our Valentine's Day with Jimmy and Brittany and while Ada was just 7 days old, we continued that tradition last year, in our pj's on the couch of the Moncriefs chowing down on pizza.
Ada is one very blessed child as we got to witness this past weekend at the birthday extravaganza of the year! The party was PACKED with friends and families and TONS of little friends all out to show their love and excitement for Ada's 1st birthday.
What a great little life to get to share - Happy Birthday Miss Ada!

This was as close as I could get to the party girl - there were SO many people in the room, that I couldn't get a close up...what a lucky girl!

Hot Topic Tuesday...Not so Hot, just something to make you think today...

We've been visiting a great church here in Nashville. This past Sunday, the pastor showed this video. It was very impacting to me and I wanted to share it with our Opp Knockers as well. I think the most impacting statement is, "How much do you have to hate someone to not tell them the truth?"

Motivational Monday Message!
