Let it Snow Let it Snow Let it Snow

So this post will actually be used for evidence more than just telling everyone that we got about 2 inches of snow last night. Sure, 2 inches doesn't sound like much, but it was a LOT more when you consider that it all fell in one failing swoop within one hour...while I was driving home from work! The craziest part about this snow event is that north of Nashville, in the Hendersonville area and even just downtown Nashville received ABSOLUTELY no snow. My boss lives in Hendersonville and is originally from Michigan, so I knew I might have problems convincing her of our snow. Thankfully, our director lives about 5 minutes from me and received so much at her house that she didn't even attempt to drive to work today. Sure as a "northerner" people can make fun of the fact that we proud southerners cannot drive in snow, but come on - think about it: we very rarely get snow and when we do, our first priority is milk and bread, not learning how to drive in the snow. Unfortunately, I failed miserably as a southern woman last night because we had neither milk nor bread in our kitchen. Sadly, Brent and I had about a 2 hour delay before work this morning and I couldn't even cook us a fabulous breakfast! I hereby submit my formal apology to all southerners out there as I did not attempt to do the "milk and bread" run last night. No, instead, Brent and I braved the elements and walked to eat dinner. Granted, it was only about 1 block, but even my cousin thought we were crazy. After taking over an hour just to get home, I wasn't about to get back and drive. Plus, Applebee's is about 1 block from our house. Driving home was interesting as I was in my car right in the middle of the largest downfall of the snow. At first, I was calling my parents telling them it was snowing, but that excitement became concern as the driving conditions worsened and I saw people sliding all over the streets. I had a major failed attempt at a shortcut as I slid back down a hill...very scary, needless to say.
Finally I made it to the entrance to our apartment only to realize cars were stopped on the side of the hill, including a very large UPS truck that couldn't make it down our hill. I envisioned him sliding into my car. I called my knight in shining armor who came jogging out of the snow-blanketed hill then proceeded to drive my car to safety. We knew this morning might be rough because the temperatures dropped down in the 20's last night. All that slush would become ice overnight and we were right. I woke up this morning, called my cousin who said her husband had been hit on his way to work because the roads were so slippery. Thankfully he was ok but his truck was smashed. That's all it took for me to know I needed to wait for the sun to come out and melt away the ice on our roads. Brent's coworkers called and ragged him about not driving in, so of course Brent had to "prove" his manliness and drive into work. After I got the all-clear from him, I drove in as well - besides some heavy traffic, I made it safely to work.
whew.
Here are a few photos...
From our back door:

This is a car that we saw last night. It's at the top of the hill driving through our apartment neighborhood. I'm standing at the bottom of the hill and this car was very close to sliding off the edge.

Trying to show how much snow had fallen - this is Brent's finger....
This is the finger in the snow...

I can NOT believe it! I am so jealous. Snow come down here too. You must share yourself with the rest of the southern region. Oh and who needs snow to have a bread and milk scare. It stormed the other night was the milk and bread shelves were barren at our local grocer.

I love the snowed glazed forest out back from your "home". So very pretty!

Yay for the snow.. How exciting!!Thats my kind of snow too, just enough to play in and delay school and work! Awesome pictures girl!
I love your comments about southerners and the milk and bread scare. In Birmingham if they even predicted strong winds the stores couldn't keep milk and bread! Crazy!
