Gosh this weather is BEAUTIFUL! Seriously Spring is here - yay!
We have been doing a lot of running around lately - we had our first preschool playdate last week with our church. I felt a little silly taking my 7 month old to a playdate with toddlers, but like I learned at our first playdate a few months ago, they are just as much for the moms as they are for our little ones.
With Easter being just a few days away, this playdate was all about Spring and Easter. The older kids planted some grass in a cup and I was flooded with memories of doing these same type of crafts growing up - with grass growing within 10 days. All of us said we knew our husbands would love to have the same success growing grass in our own yards - ha ha.
We ate a little snack then headed outside to a beautiful yard filled with all sorts of Easter egg surprises. All the mobile ones hit the grass looking for the prized hidden among the plastic eggs. Gabbie found a fellow non-mobile buddy and they shared in amazement over plastic eggs and real grass and dirt. We wrapped up the day and headed back home where Brent surprised me by taking the day off from work!
We had a pretty low-key celebration of our wedding anniversary this year - even though it was a big one: 5 years. We ended up eating dinner out with our friends the Parsons the night before our actual anniversary because the weather was so pleasant. On our actual anniversary, I woke up to twelve roses placed in individual vases all throughout the house and a very sweet card from Brent. I made us a yummy dinner and we enjoyed our time together. We're hoping to take a big trip this fall once Gabbie it at least 1 year old and we can leave her in Chattanooga for grandparent time.
I think Gabbie will be crawling just about any day - I think I said that in my last post, but seriously. She can figure out how to scoot a little to get to toys. I still haven't seen her do it, but when I turn away somehow she figures out how to get to what she needs. She's also started sleeping on her tummy at night - I've gone into her room the past two mornings and she is SOUND asleep on her belly. I'm not surprised - I LOVE sleeping on my stomach and while pregnant, tried to figure out way to half way sleep on my side, half way sleep on my stomach. She's also eating up a storm - we're still trying all sorts of new foods and her biggest accomplishment lately has been eating finger foods. She loves bananas and cantaloupe as well as these little Gerber Wagon Wheel snacks that she munches on. She's also doing better about drinking from a sippy cup - I had an "a-ha" moment and took the little plastic "regulator" out of it so the water would flow freely. She loves water.
She also started blowing raspberries a few weeks ago and kept doing it while I was feeding her. This was a little frustrating for me, but after much research and trying to "fix it" - she just stopped doing it so much....like most people said she would. (thanks everyone)
Other than that, we've just been getting some yard work done. I'm hoping to do my first vegetable garden this spring - so wish me luck! ha
We're definitely gearing up for a great Easter - we have a very busy, full weekend ahead of us in celebrating Easter. I can't wait to teach her some of the great ideas I've learned this week from Mom to Mom about Easter, starting with this adorable book someone told me about. Also, this is a REALLY neat idea - they're called Tomb Cookies. Basically you "wrap" the marshmallow in a crescent roll, symbolizing Jesus and once they bake, the marshmallow disappears symbolizing Jesus' resurrection. Such a great idea - anyone have any other ideas on teaching about Easter?
Here's a good start:
