Ok so I haven't been as diligent lately in my grocery shopping deals. I'm trying to gear back up and well tonight in getting stuff together for our yard sale this weekend, I found my old business card organizer which I can use for my coupon organizer now! All I could do was laugh about how much my life has changed in 2-4 years.
Any way, back to my grocery deals. I was SUPER excited this week at Aldi. When we first got married, I shopped there a few times and determined I did not like it. At. All. Their prices were cheap-O but their products were, well, nasty. However, I got schooled in Aldi and realized the best way to work it is to learn when their produce shipments come in each week. Since I have been making food for Gabbie, I've wanted to do it efficiently - not only with time but financially. Aldi has been my main resource in produce for the past year. My weekly routine is to stop by on Tuesdays after I found out their produce shipments come in on Monday afternoons, so on Tuesdays their produce are super fresh. I have learned to stay away from any of their packaged/processed foods (I don't buy many processed items anyway).
This week I spent $20.10 and got a TRUCK load of fresh produce. Check it out -
4 Yellow Squash Bag of Fresh Spinach
4 Zucchini Bananas (19 cents/lb! My bunch was $.90)
1 Pineapple 6 Sweet Potatoes
4 Pears Tortillas
1 Pint Mushrooms 2 Cans Green Chile's
8 Roma Tomatoes 3 Bell Peppers
You may already know this also, but if you have a Trader Joe's in your area - they are owned by the same company as Aldi, but tend to have more organic products at similar prices as Aldi.
I also hit up Publix twice this week - once on Tuesday and again on Wednesday. My first trip I spent $9.27 and savd $8.26. I always feel like I accomplished something when I spent almost the same amount that I saved. My second trip (current deals) included mayonnaise, olive oil, ketchup and tuna. They were all BOGOF and I love that!
Kroger rounded out this week's trip and my biggest bargain included a beef brisket that was regularly $15.27 marked to $7.25. After I paid for my items, I noticed my brisket rang up at regular price. After visiting customer service, I actually got it for free! Great store policy, I must say. (and good to know!)
So I guess it's a little nerdy of me to be so excited about good deals, but I love to know I spent $60 in groceries this week and have great nutritious dinners and lunches for us for the next 2 weeks. YAY
