Looking back on the past 5 months

It's crazy but true: it's been 5 months since we changed our address to Nashville, TN. I was just thinking about all the memories we've made in such a short amount of time...
Titans Games, Kenny Chesney concert (Poets and Pirates concert), Hootie and the Blowfish concert, playing softball with Kairos (and meeting new people), having great friends from TVFCU visit for a weekend...it's all been fabulous! I never imagined that all our family would come to spend the night with us at some point, but they have! For the first time I get to see my cousin on a weekly basis at least, sometimes more! Who knew I would move here and end up having surgery so quickly, but thankfully we're on the tail end of the recovery of that. Oh and my cake classes - it just took moving away to work on such a fun craft/hobby and hopefully a business opportunity down the road.

Even more exciting are all the opportunities that Brent has experienced as a result of stand up comedy. I was so proud of him that first night he did open mic night at Spanky's and since that night several months ago, he has developed into an amazing speaker and comedian. He's also made some great connections and we're hoping it opens up some great doors for him as he moves towards becoming a motivational speaker.

We've also met a few great people as a result of Brent's job. Recently we went to Austin and Ann's house to watch the debate and hang out. We had a great time and it was really nice to get to establish new friendships in Nashvegas. Brent says we're officially OLD because we planned a Friday night around the presidential debate.

We've been pretty bummed, though, that we haven't seen anyone famous! We know they live ALL around us, and we hear about them on the news ALL THE TIME but still, no famous people sightings. Brent always thinks he sees Dave Ramsey, but they're all just posers.

Last night we had our first encounter with a famous person! Thanks to our friends, Chad and Gena, who rolled into town and invited us for dinner at their friends house - Phil and Kendra Stacey. We had met Phil at Gena's wedding last October as he was a fellow bridal party member with me. However, going to their home was a whole different deal! These guys were so down to earth and we had a blast. Kendra and Phil met their freshman year at Lee University in Cleveland. Along with Chad and Gena, Brent is a Lee "flame" so they all had something in common. I always joke that I wasn't "sanctified" enough to go to Lee...a little COG humor for all you baptists that don't get it... HA
Anyway, we had SUCH a great time. The Staceys invited us back to their house in November as they are starting a small group for young couples. In case you don't realize that we live in SUCH a small world - one of the guys in the small group went to Lee Univ with Brent and in fact they were great friends, even traveling to South America together for their cross-cultural experience. (Or as his grandmother STILL thinks: a "mission" trip)
Anyway, we are pumped to get to meet more couples in a great environment! Brent and I are such social people and I have THOROUGHLY missed entertaining people at our house, that it was so nice to get to hang out with friends, eating, laughing and having a great conversation.

The next 5 months are exciting as we have gotten settled and feel a little more oriented with our new city. We hope to start looking to buy a new house at the first of the year, but we're not in any hurry. Our apartment isn't THAT bad - heck, if I can make it up 30 steps on crutches for 3 weeks, we can stay here a few more months! Who knows what will happen with our jobs, housing, friends, connections, church, but we are open to whatever God has planned for us while we're on our little "Nashville Mission." Thank you to everyone who's come to see us while we have transitioned to our new city: it makes it MUCH easier to get to see those people who know you the best on a regular basis.

Awesome! Look at you two... movin' on up in Nashvagas, hangin' with the famous crowd. ;o) That really is cool that you are socializing with the Staceys. Even though I was only a "flame" for a little while, I always rooted for him on American Idol!
We usually come to Nashville around this time of year to see the lights at the Opryland Opry Hotel... we will call you if we come this year! We would love to see you!
